We have previously reviewed the Snow Joe SJ620, and the Snow Joe SJ621 is it’s brother. The only main difference between the two is that the SJ621 has a bright 20 Watt Halogen Light attached to it.

When you first get the SJ621, you will notice that the assembly is a snap to do and that the light weight and ergonomic handles make using it incredibly easy to do.

As an electric model, the SJ621 is lightweight, yet powerful with its 13.5 amp motor, easily capable of clearing 10″ deep snow, with its 18″ wide clearance. The manufacturers state you can shift up to 650 pounds of snow per minute, and that is easily believed. Although the unit is plastic, the cutting auger is made of heavy grade steel so you have the peace of mind that it won’t break easily.

The handle has a system to keep the cord in place so that it doesn’t come unplugged, which is really handy, especially in blizzard conditions.

The Toro 383161 Power Shovel handles wet and dry snow equally as well, but one flaw is the snow chute. Whilst it works well and flings the snow quite far (up to 20′ depending on the snow) it only blows the snow forward, which can make organising you ploughing a little difficult. Some users suggest to hold the blower at a slight angle whilst walking to push the snow to the side.

The safety system on the Toro, is typical of most garden equipment in that you have to buttons to hold whilst its on. While this is a great system to keep you safe, holding these buttons down in freezing temperatures through gloves, quickly gets tiresome. Luckily the Toro makes light work of your decking or yard so you are done so much quicker.

Conclusion

Overall, the Toro 383161 Power Shovel is great for your shovel and works well for small to mid range yards and decking. Anything larger and you might want to invest in a bigger model.
